Finish the year with something left in the tank
Posted in Wellness on Oct 14, 2026
By October, the diary can start behaving like an overenthusiastic event organiser. Every deadline is urgent, every invitation needs an answer, and every unfinished task would apparently like to be completed before December.
It is easy to respond by pushing harder and promising yourself a proper rest over the holidays. But your wellbeing deserves attention before you reach the finish line.
This month, try making room for a little more breathing space.
Decide what actually needs to happen
Take a look at your commitments and identify what is essential, what can wait and where you need help. A full diary does not automatically mean every item deserves equal priority.
Give yourself permission to negotiate a deadline or decline an invitation when your capacity is already stretched.
Keep a few daily anchors
Busy weeks can disrupt the basics. Regular meals, a consistent sleep routine, some movement and time with people you trust can help you manage stress.
You do not need to turn wellbeing into another ambitious project. Start with a routine you can realistically maintain, such as a short walk or a more consistent bedtime.
Give worries a place to go
If financial admin is taking up mental space, write down the concern and one next step. That might be checking a balance, gathering documents or booking a conversation with your adviser.
You may not resolve everything immediately, but you can decide when and how to address it.
Stay connected—and ask for support
Make time to check in with someone you trust. If stress persists, feels difficult to manage or begins affecting your everyday life, speak to a qualified healthcare professional.
Finishing strong can mean completing an important task. It can also mean recognising that you need support, adjusting your pace and giving yourself time to recover.
As the year gathers speed, remember to include yourself in the plans you are making.
